O.D.I.N. by leonwoon O.D.I.N. by leonwoon
"The Orbital Defensive Intervention Network, O.D.I.N. for short is an orbital kinetic weapon that fires telephone pole-sized tungsten rods, that upon reaching the Earth's gravity pull, will be accelerated to  speeds of 10 kilometers per second. The resulting impact on its target is great enough to shatter the ground's crust and causing small earthquakes.
These rods are called Gugnir, after the Norse god Odin's legendary spear that is famous for never missing its target. Flanking ODIN are two small observatory bases called Hugin and Munin, named after Odin's ravens that scout the battlefield. These bases are stationed with maintenance personnel and soldiers such as this astronaut with a sub-orbital railgun stationed to defend ODIN from any missiles or small shuttle craft that seek to hijack it (yeah, they saw what happened in COD Ghosts) "

Ok so, before anyone can say I got this idea from COD Ghosts, actually, no, the idea of kinetic rod weapons have taken my fancy ever since the days of Endwar (such an under-rated game)

Actually the original orbital kinetic weapon system's name was THOR, and was actually drawn up by some of the big names of science fiction and some big (retired) names of the military. They even had a proposal and everything.

Right? Then the treaty banning orbital WMDs came about and there was the end of that XD

Actually the treaty banned nuclear devices or other WMDs. A kinetic projectile has no radiation, nothing that puts them in WMD territory.

The big problem is that the system would be massive, thus the cost is massive.

So which name is better? Odin or Thor? Just a question.

Thor would serve better for a laser-type weapon instead. Odin sounds much more suitable because a physical object is being hurtled to the ground instead ;)

OK, although Project Thor was coined to be a Kinetic Rod weapon satellite.

Also the name 'Zeus' is used in 'GI Joe: Retaliation'.
